indicator promblem maybe switch??

Forum:

Hi all this is my first post so thanks ahead of time.
ive had my fourtrak for about 5 years its a 1992 f70. recently had a few electrical issues first the alternator then the starter motor these have now been fixed but while it was broken down outside my house someone decided to lean in through the window and snap off both my indicator stalk and the window wiper stalk and smashed the surrounding plastic housing found a replacement switch on ebay no luck with the housing and connected it all works except the indicators had to change the fuses for everything else (rh light, lh light, wipers and rear light) but turn fuse was fine (double checked) wonder if something else has blown don't really want to take her to a garage this side of christmas any help is most appreciated
Thanks

These switch on the negative

These switch on the negative polarity and not the positive, so the first thing to check is power at the indicators with the ignition switched on.

If you have continual power you know its either the wiring or the flasher relay and you track it back.

Are you sure?

Im not getting any power to the bulbs but i am getting ground i have a wiring diagram but cant understand it but am missing a wire labled B2 from my new switch so maybe i need to find where it goes also have no hazard switch that might be a problem.
thanks

On vehicles this old we

On vehicles this old we encounter the perpetual problem of modifications, particularly with wiring, and in many cases you may find one of a number of previous owners has wired something or changed the wiring lay out away from the original wiring layout, I had one vehicle with a negative switching on one side for the indicators, and on the other side it had been bodged to positive wiring.

I take the pragmatic approach these days, particularly where wiring is concerned, and I simply rewire a whole vehicle and work through each section of wiring loom at a time and eliminate the problems as I go along to ensure everything is correct and working as it eliminates the hotch potch of previous bodged repairs and in such simple vehicles they are easily rewired. I work to one system only and this is to begin with a much more complex fuse box arrangement and replace the original 4 fuse system with a 16 fuse board arrangement, and introduce relays where they are needed.
