Sirion Rally 2 - Down on power and hesitates before redline

Forum:

Hi!

Figured I'd sign up to see why the experts might be able to assist with.

Basically, picked up a cheap run about Sirion Rally 2, now I know these have the K3-VE2 higher revving engine but we seem to be having some issues with ours.

Currently it's not making full power and when we rev it out it seems to hesitate at around 7k then slowly makes it way to redline.

We've checked the codes, all seems to be fine. We have also checked and changed the following:

New spark plugs
New MAP sensor
New O2 Sensor
Checked and cleaned fuel filter (Pump appears to be fine as well)
Fuel Pressure seems fine

Just really not sure what is wrong, our other thought is perhaps its had an engine swap with a standard K3, but surely this would lead to issues when revving to redline as the standard k3s cannot do this.

We plan to rip the cam cover off to have a look at the cams to tell us what engine we have, we've also ran into an issue today of a mystery grinding metallic sound coming from the engine bay which I can only assume isn't helping.

Will also most likely do a compression test and see if the timing marks are correct on the engine once we have the cam cover off. But on that, would anyone have any other ideas?

Maybe cam position sensor?

It just seems to be down and power and hesitates at redline, through out the rev range it appears fine just slow. Not making what I would assume is the quite nippy 110 bhp it should make.

It's a cheap auto cross car we purchased so we're not overly upset but would love to get her working good as new!

Thanks guys,

Joe
