F 50

Forum:

I am looking to find the tappet gap sizes on my 1984 F50
and would appreciate any input. Help
And can you also confirm that the valve layout is as normal ie.
ex.inl. inl.ex ex.inl inl.ex

That is the correct layout.

That is the correct layout. As for gap? Sorry I've always done it by 'feel'. Ie. (presuming your rocker is nice and free running) tighten right down onto the pushrod, then back off one half a turn. For any stiff rockers, leave a little more gap. Not a profesional aproch I know, but it's worked so fare.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.

F50?

What is an F50 .... not know here. Is it a Sportrak or Fourtrack?

Pre-4trak. Looks like Postma

Pre-4trak. Looks like Postman Pat's van (if you have the van body, and not the soft top). 2.5 Deisel. There is a 1600 Petrol version, the F20.

For those who dont know it looks like a Rocky
Really pleased I joined the club thanks for nothing
If I'd wanted to guess I could have done that myself
thankyou

If it looks like a Rocky, it'

If it looks like a Rocky, it's not an F50. Not unless someone has done a magger body swop, and chassis strech job on it. I started Daihatsuing with F50's, when the fourtrak was a new thing. They do not look alike. Are you sure it's not an F70? In which case it's a 2.8 engine. Though I must say '84 is consistent with a pre-fourtrak. The F50 should look something like this: http://www.daihatsu-drivers.co.uk/node/3404

My log book says it's a F50 RV H/T 2.5 ltr Diesel
So who am I to argue but it looks nothing like your snap.
I'll send a snap asap or post it on site

f 50

looks like a fourtrak to me you sure you have the right log book

I guess it might be a Spanish

I guess it might be a Spanish spec car then? I know Land Rovers are made under licence in Spain, and are called Santana. These are not the same spec as the UK built models. Maybe Daihatsu do a similar thing.
However if this car was in the UK, and not an import I would say that someone has put an older logbook with a newer car. The only reason I can think of to do that, is that the car was stolen at some time in it's past!!!
I hope I'm wrong.
In the UK an F50 RV H/T would be like the pictur in my previous post, but with a van body, not a soft top. Also in the UK the F50 is non-terbo. The terbo wasn't added untill the 2.8 engine came along in the Rocky body. Which certainly appeares to be what you have from your picture.
2 easy ways to tell a 2.5, from a 2.8. (UK)
1) If the sticker is still there, a 2.5 will have DG on the rocker cover, and a 2.8 will have DL.
2) A 2.5 engine has an in line Deisle pump. Ie the injecter pipes are all one behind the other on top of the pump. A 2.8 has a rotery pump. Ie the injector pipes come out of the rear of the pump, in a circle.

cock up

Looks like I've been sold a pup from what you say.
It is a UK reg vehicle not Spanish and it certainly has a rotary pump and doesn't have rocker cover stickers.
Oh boy, well thanks for your input anyway much appreciated

Continued F50

Well here I am again.
It gets muddier and muddier.
The Log book, as I told you, says it's a F50 RV H/T but the plates say it's a F50 RV M. (Fourtrack)
The Chassis Number and engine number are as per log book yet the log book says 2,500cc not 2,800cc which you, I'm sure correctly say, is incorrect due to the fact it has the rotory fuel pump. This of course I can change through DVLA
I've also got the gaps now which are inlet 0.25 exh. 0.35 (HOT) so at last I'll be able to complete the re assembly after a 3 crack cylinder head welding job.
Once again thanks for your input very much appreciated.
Now that the log book and bulkhead plates agree on engine and chassis numbers I feel a little more at ease

Simple really
If you dont know why answer

Mace is only trying to help! Ie. asking for more information.

What?????????

F50 and F20 were the predecessor to the fourtrak and sportrak, the f50 was diesel engined, with a Toyota derived diesel, the F20 was the petrol engined version, identical in body styles, and available in LWB and SWB variants, as well as pick ups.

Many still about, although terminal tinworm affected most, still have an F20, original, and it is used off road despite considerable renovation of the bodywork, and the countless hours put in to making obsolete body panels.

Look in the image galleries section, pictures of several are in their.
