Question from new Sport owner

Have bought a '94 ELXi last week. My first Daihatsu and so far am very pleased. It's immaculate (although high mileage at 95,000) and everything (well, nearly everything) works.

It's intended for farm work so won't stay immaculate for long! Have been trying to find out what weight it will legally tow (UK law) without any success whatsoever. (Google sent me here, very pleased to find this site) Am at present trawling through past posts here - I see there are several topics relating to towing, so I may be back here later for some clarication.

Meanwhile, I have a question on the 3-postion switch for suspension damping control. What exactly does it do? I hear a brief whirring sound when shifting the switch, but must admit I can't really tell any difference in ride quality between one setting and another. Anyone know more please?

Three selections for rear suspension. Hard. Normal. Soft.
If the dampers have been replaced its likely they are not the three stage type but normal shocks. The three stage are expensive so replacements are selected by price!

re: Suspension

Thanks - I didn't even know it affects only the rear. Is there any obvious way to tell if the shocks are the correct 3-stage type or are now non-variable replacements? Maybe the fact that I can't tell the difference whichever position I use is the giveaway. Do you know if there should be a very noticeable difference in ride quality between one setting and another?

I thought the 3 stage dampers

I thought the 3 stage dampers were only fitted to the front? Anyway, if there fited they have a braded pipe running into them from a resivwar.
As for towing, a 4x4 can legaly tow one and a half times it's own unlaiden waight.
I used to tow 2.5 tonn with mine with little difficulty.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.

Ours tows our Fleetwood Caval

Ours tows our Fleetwood Cavalier 4-berth 'van and does not know it's there. The van weighs in at 865kg, and you'll find Sportraks tow 1.5 tonnes. Top tip- dampers on hard setting when towing.
