YRV Turbo Modify

Forum:

Hi
I have just acquired a New YRV Turbo in South Africa. From what i can make out same/similar spec as the UK one.

Is there anyone who can give me some sensible ideas on modifications. It is a very rare car here and not many people know about it.

I am a little dubious over the strength of the autoshift so nothing too OTT. We also run on crap 95 unleaded fuel which I have to factor in.

Although not technically minded a few pointers will be great. I associate with a number of scooby drivers (hence my user name !) who are keen to help and obviously know a few tricks so not a problem if technical input given.

Thanks

gearbox

Apparently the gearbox from a toyota yaris tsport should bolt directly to the yrv engine. you could do that if ur not too fond of the autobox

YRV modify

Firstly i would pop some octane booster in with every fuel fill, to up the Ron a few points. Surely they sell that in S.A.
The rest i will leave to other members.
cheers,
Dave.

Yrv Intake

Hello!
Has anyone changed the standard filter of a YRV TURBO with an aftermarket one in the std box?
I have tried to find an aftermarket nut couldn't... I tried K&N, GREEN,SIMOTA,JR but nothing.....

Any ideas?

YRV Tuning

Just to let you guys know- I have spoken to my specialist, who says that larger turbo's, suspension packages and Live 'custom' maps are availiable for the YRV Turbo.

He has said that if any of you guys want to contact him; he would be more than interested to advise on what he can and can't do. He predominantly deals with race and fast road tuned smart cars & roadsters- so is no stanger to dealing with 100bhp + per liter cars, I have used and recomended him for well over four years now.

With the lack of UK companies willing to deal with the YRV turbo i thought you guys might benifit from giving him a call / email.

His website is: http://www.bigperformance.co.uk

Email him @ eval(unescape('%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%6d%61%69%6c%74%6f%3a%69%61%6e%40%62%69%67%70%65%72%66%6f%72%6d%61%6e%63%65%2e%63%6f%2e%75%6b%22%3e%69%61%6e%40%62%69%67%70%65%72%66%6f%72%6d%61%6e%63%65%2e%63%6f%2e%75%6b%3c%2f%61%3e%27%29%3b'))

Hope this helps guys.

Hi bro, I'm interested in the

Hi bro, I'm interested in the FCD for the YRV-T. As a matter of fact, I've been searching around for one and i found out that for the FCD's, there're 3 models. One's the Standard, the other's the K. Which model did you get for the FCD?

yrv mods

Hi I've managed to fit a Bailey Dump valve and a k&n air filter to mine. Makes an excellent noise and looks good under the bonnet as well.

YRV stuff!

Wow man! Being a Daihatsu fan i look up 2 the YRV turbo! How many 1.3's have 95kw out the factory??? Dam amazing!

When it comes to finding parts it can be quite trickey!! U gotta look out for key words like M201G and K3-VET etc...

Anyways about mods... You lucky cus there actually are a few sollutions out there!

1st thing you need to do is the exhaust, chuck out the cat and fabricate a new system from the turbo straight out. Try not 2 go for the whole duel pipe thing, its looses you power.

2nd thing is to sort out the filter. If you want a cone set up go for the Blitz. In my mind rather go for HKS and get the "racing Suction Realoded" mushroom filter and while you at it order the Super SQV blow off valve and the iridium/platinum spark plugs from them. HKS is super quality!!

3rd thing is management. Im running a Perfect Power SMT6 in my Sirion and its ok, didnt free up that much power but in a turbo application i reckon with the right fuel + above mods will see you in the 110+ Kw bracket. If you want more plug+play stuff go for the HKS F-CON IS. Think about upping the boost a little but be carefull, you need to get a F.C.D!!!

Now you got the power sorted you need to think about kit thats gonna keep you planted. We all know the YRV can be a little floppy around the bendz! So You need to get the S.Tech springs from Tein, they will give you a 30mm drop which will not only give you the look but also tighten it up nicely! A set of 15's and some 195/45 should make the biggest improvement though.

Then you need to go to www.dsport-web.com and get a few other bits from their catalogue. The front aluminuim strut brace and rear strut bar to strengthen up the rear! Some slotted brake rotors and the performance pads should also be considered since you will be going much faster!!!haha

Well if you get this far then i commend you for not falling a sleep!! Ive kinda rambled on a bit but it should help you in your modifying efforts!!!

Respect bru.
Cheers!

My Mods

Hi,
My car is a Perodua Kenari (similar to Move) and just recently converted with YRV's JDM Turbo engine. I'd like to share my mods here.

I'm using Apexi Power Intake pod, HKS SSQV2 blow-off valve, a custom 2" downpipe and custom 2" exhaust with FGK center bullet. I've also installed 2" S-flow box to minimize the sound. I also moved the intercooler to the front. I'm using a custom bar-and-plate intercooler made for K-Car.
Interior wise, I've installed Apexi EL mechanical boost meter.

I'll post some pictures later. Cheers.
