Hi Can anyone help with suggestions about a noise on my 1300 EFI engine? It sounds exactly like an alternator whine, very harsh note, which starts about 2/3 seconds after the engine is started. Once the engine has warmed up it quietens down to a background whine. It matches the engine speed exactly. It seems to come from the centre of the engine where the carb. & air inlet are. IT IS NOT :- (1) Alternator (same noise when removed) (2)Water pump (same noise when belt removed) (3) Cam belt or tensioner (Replaced with new) (4) Oil pump (Replaced with new) (5) Clutch assembly & thruster bearing (Replaced with new) The big ends and main bearings are all firm - no slack in them. I am completely out of ideas. The only part I haven't opened up is the rocker box, as apart from a slight tappet noise, there doesn't seem to be any of this noise coming from it. Help appreciated.
