Installing a towbar??

Hi, New to the forum, just got a 1997 sportrak & have been given a towball & electrics. Can anybody tell me if i can just bolt it onto the existing plate or do i need the support beam that i have seen in the pictures on the forum ????

All depends on what you

All depends on what you intend to tow. If it's a light trailer then just bolt the ball on. But if like me you yank a caravan around, then the full towbar would be a good idea.

Hi Dave, Thanks for replying, looking at just towing a small trailer & probably my motorbike as its italian & not very reliable!
But have just found a sporty in a nearby breakers with complete towbar fitted for £50, so might aswell get it as you never know !

The hole spacing of a

The hole spacing of a standard towball is not the same as the sportrak towplate holes, so you will need to file them out to get the bolts in.

Also, the tow plate is about 15cm too high, so your trailer will point up in the air!

I bought a new towbar plus electrics from eBay for about £80 and was really impressed by the quality of the kit that arrived. Took about 2 hours to fit.
