Forum:
Hi,
I have a J plate Sportrak and the headgasket has failed. i am going to change it myself so what are the pitfalls?
I shall also swap the water pump, alternator and cambelt, is there anything else to look out for?
Any advice much appreciated.
Andy
Take your time, photo
Take your time, photo everything if you have a digi cam.
If in doubt have your head skimmed, and pressure tested. Then make sure you use NEW bolts, and get a full top end gasket kit. As your removing the head, you may as well do the stem seals etc. More work, but a better engine at the end!!
Are you doing it in situ, or taking the engine out??
Cam belt and tensioner, might be in need of change too.
If your doing it in place remove the rad, as it makes things easier.
Use a copy of the service manual, if you need any help give me an email at eval(unescape('%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%6d%61%69%6c%74%6f%3a%6d%61%6e%69%61%63%5f%6a%61%79%40%68%6f%74%6d%61%69%6c%2e%63%6f%6d%22%3e%6d%61%6e%69%61%63%5f%6a%61%79%40%68%6f%74%6d%61%69%6c%2e%63%6f%6d%3c%2f%61%3e%27%29%3b')).

Head Bolts
Do you know where to get new cylinder head bolts for the sportrak?
