DIY Snorkel

Forum:

I am trying to make a DIY snorkel for my TD Fourtrak.

When searching the web i found this article: http://www.warfs.org/content/view/59/63/

Although you cant zoom in on the pictures it looks as though he has still kept his original air filter in there. Has any one had a problem with trying to make theirs water tight?

Is it possible to replace the original air filter with a much smaller KnN style one that will fit on the end of the snorkel? This way it will only be tubing under the bonnet and much easier to make water tight.

Also is the alternator in the Non-Independant and Indepandant the same? As mine (Non Indy) has gone and there is a indepentant fourtrak at the scrappy near me.

Thanks

Steve

Snorkel

I made a snorkel for my Sportrak and fitted it directly to the air box, using flexible hose.

I used plenty of sillicone on the conections and 2 jubilee clips each end.

When I cover the top of the snorkel, it kills the engine, so it must be a good seal.

You could fit a filter on to the snorkel, but the problem is that it will get wet and dirty quite easily.

Suppose you could go and

Suppose you could go and remove the filter system, and fit a pipercross viper style "closed cone" filter. That would do as you wanted.
Although the daihatsu airbox has an anti deluge chamber (stops the air filter getting swamped) on the front, so if you did replace the airbox then you have to run the risk!!

Mud makes excellent Toothpaste.
