4Trak Battery

Forum:

I think the battery in my 2.8TDX may be past its sell-by date Sad

Anyone got a lead on a place selling batteries at a decent price? I'm kinda expecting this to be rather expensive when I look at the size of the battery...

Thanks! Gavin.

I dont know about the later 2

I dont know about the later 2.8's, but the earlier ones had an enormous battery, designated an N100 size over here. An N70 of about 600 to 700 CCA is quite sufficent for your needs. You can probably get one for round half the price of the N100. If you are really tricky, you can pull the original battery tray, and manufacture a replacement that will hold two batteries. Second battery for winch, fridge, lights, ect.

Type 644 or 643 fit, are standard truck batteries

643 and 644 batteries are approx 100 Amp-hours. The only difference between the two types is that the positive and negative poles are the other way round .... off hand I can't remember which is the right way for the 4trak.

The nice thing about these is that they are the 'standard' fit for most small trucks (or larger ones with 24 V systems). This makes them quite cheap per amp-hour, compared with batteries for cars. I get good quality 644 batteries for £37 plus VAT at motor factors. Retail, you should be able to buy them for around £60.

644 / 643 batteries are slightly shorter than the Jap fit, but are the same height and width. Possibly a lump of wood either end of the battery carrier will be needed to ensure a snug fit.
