Sportrak Mods.

Hi

I have sourced the parts from ebay to do electric mirrors and windows. The mirrors look easy but I will let you know how the windows work out.

Like wise I have new springs from Milner with Poly greasable bushes. The are the four or maybe 5 leaf type which are hard. The later models only had 3 leaves and are softer.

CONTINUATION.

Hi again,
Right I have made a start on the windows and you will need the mechanism for the electric windows as well as the swiching, armrest and the Motors. I have so far removed the manual winder mechanism which is very easy Lower the windor so you can see the track attached to the bottom of the window. At each end you will find a bolt through the bar which attaches it to a further bar on the window and act as "stop ends". Once these are removed along with the bolts holding the mechanism to the door the whole mechanism can be removed via the large retangular hole. I used a suction pad to prevent the window dropping but needn't have bothered.

The new switched door handle/armrst is longer and uses 3 screws. Mounting is different but the square holes are already cut about an inch down from those on the manual handles. Carefully remove the 3 plastic clips and place them in the new holes. The switches sit beneath the door opening handle. I am waiting for the mechanisms but installation will be the reverse of the above. Wiring I havent looked at yet but the door has a precut hole for it to go through but I dont think the body on mine has the same. If you can get the entiredo or LOOM it will include the central locking and the Mirror wires aswell as the electric window wiring. I haven't so will create as I go. The door card will have a hole in for the handle so you will need to block that off. I usually use SONY tweeter speakers which are about the same size.

The Mirrors are a straight swop. Carefully remove the triangular covers on the inside with the hole i it for the remote toggle for adjusting them manually. Undo the bolts holding the mirror and simply replace with the electric mirrors. WARNING either hold the mirrors or get some one two as they will drop once thebolts are out. The Electric Mirrors will have a wiring connector which goes down the channel at the top of the door and clips in to a small hole provided in the door. Bolt them up and replace the triangularcovers. If you have to use those with theholes in from the manual mirrors use rubber grommets to fill the holes. If you have the door loom there is a suitable connector which the wire from the mirror clips into, if you havent again like me you will have to create a loom. The switch sits in the centre consol by removing the coin unit. The easiest way is to poke a finger through the rubber edges of the handbrake lever and push on the bottom of the unit. The switch sits straight in the hole. Again unless you have the loom from the switch you will have to create it. Both the mirrors and the windows will require live and negative supplies and should be provided for within the fuse box. I haven't got to that stage yet and maybe the loom within the dash may have multi way blocks already if then you will have to wire them up. Both will require wiring to the motor via the switches and the drivers window switching will require a loop to the opposite side plus isolation for the passenger switch allowing the driver to control both windows and to stop the passenger from operating their window if required. The Mirrors are a bit easier with wiring going to each mirror and has an internal switch between either R or L Mirror. There are only two wires to each mirror so I assume the switch does all the switching of the motors for up,down,in ,out. I may be wrong but will let you know.

I am hopefully wiring the mirrors this week while I await the mechanism for the windows, which may take some time as I live in France and getting the bits delivered to the UK will mean a delay until I get over. It was somthing I had hoped and tried to avoid by using the manual mechanisms. The Motor didn't fit even with the manual part removed.

I will write again later with further details and problems encountered.
