Cat

Forum:

My sporty is a 'h' reg the year when they first put a cat on it can I change it back to a normal exhaust as its cheaper to buy and have I got to mod it so it runs the same, or should I leave well alone and suffer the price.

Sporty Cat

My sportrak is a 91 J reg and it went through the MOT without a cat and it passed no problem.

I think it was late 1991 into 1992 that a cat had to be fitted.

You don't need to modify anything as the lambda sensor is in the manifold, before the cat.

You should find an increase in torque without the cat.

cat

any vch with a cat fitted k plate or later must have one b4 k plate oops it must have fell off decat it it will work better decat pipes should be available from most good exhaust retailers or get a old sporty exhaust and have a go at making one

after k plate 92 the cay has to be there for the MOT doesnt say its got to stay there

good luck

CAT

I would definitely remove the cat and there should be no need to do much more as long as the pipe you are buying has been made for a NON Cat Sportrak. If not most suppliers will prvide a connecting pipe for you. As for the ECU that should adjust itself to compensate for the easier exhaust flow. You should get a noticable increase in power and perhaps better MPG. Whilst not being a perticularly green individual I support the idea that cats are more contaminating on short journeys and besides as far as I can see the green house theory is exagerated to gain increased revenue for the Chancellor's bottomless pocket. Sorry to all you GREEN folk. In my school days I was taught that the earth was getting nearer to the sun and would warm up plus that Southern England would be gradually flooded. Was this rubbish or convieniently forgtten...I wonder.

Sorry for the soapbox but this greenhouse argument gets up my nose!!!
