locking hubs

Forum:

I have a Sportrak with automatic locking hubs, it says on the instructions to unlock them you must reverse. Out of interest if you select 2wd without reversing what problems could occur. (just to add i have not tried/done it just me being curious) Thanks.

AUTO LOCKING HUBS

Hi

If you don't reverse to disengage the hubs then they will remain in locked mode which means you are in effect using non freewheeling front hubs and wasting fuel. Because you have disengaged the transfer box you shouldn't get problems with diff-lock which will do damage but you are running the hubs on lock for no reason and turning the dif. as well. It is not good practice and I have 2 Sporties one with auto and one with Manual. When I leave the Manuals locked I do notice the drag on power and that reminds me to pull over and unlock them..
