the easy part of sump removal ?

Yes Ive really badly cross threaded the sump on my R reg Fourtrak TDX, so after going on line I decide to have a nut welded on by the local blacksmith. all went fairly well 22 nuts came out quickly, the last two took about 2 hours ("are well never mind") next, scraped out gooey gasket stuff with thin scraper (while laying on back outside on damp ground) just three hours for that!. then it was off I was feeling so proud what a great sence of achievement lying there with it dangling down. now here my probelm "how o how" do i get the B****** thing out. all nuts/pins are clear but theres just doe not seem to be enough clearance to remove it between gearbox cross bar and stuff..I've tried jacking different bits of the vehicle,twisting pulling pushing can anybody help me please. I cant call out my mechanic now I feel I've got so close.

sump removal

hi i removed our sump of our f75 2years ago as i remember i had bother getting it out but it did come slipping it back towards gearbox didnt need to slacken anything else of but not sure about the f78 that we have now but i'll have a look underneath if no one replys u dont want to leave engine without oil for too long in this damp weather,might not help but as i remember puting it back on lying underneath was a nightmare gasket kept getting nudged even with some gasket seal on it too,but it was worth all the hasle.

...... made the bolts supporting the front differential about 1" too long.

If you jack up the front end and support the chassis rails on axle stands, by loosening the front diff assembly to chassis supporting bolts, you will find that you can lower the front diff by about 3/4 inch. Hey presto, just enough space to drop the sump.

There's a non-structural cross member to remove, but I guess you have done this already.

Sorry to be so late in posting this, having just seen it while looking for something else, but it needs saying as it's such a good fix.
