Forum:
Hi all,
I'm new to the forum - spend most of my time on the Toyota 4x4 forums.
I'm looking for a 4x4 with better security than a pick-up thats going to work for its living, not too big and is reasonably priced.
Looking about it seems that a fourtrak will fit the bill but I'm the first to admit I know very little about them.
My main concern is are they capable off-roaders with a good set of boots - and are they reliable
I've got my eye on an '89 diesel van - what do I need to look out for?
Any and all help gratefully received - please dont hold it against me that I drive Toyotas too
Cheers
Neil
Yo Neil, Toyota and Daihat
Yo Neil,
Toyota and Daihatsu are close related and it's no wonder there reliability is pretty much the same.
I also drive both brands and love them too.
The Rocky is as solid as a rock in rough terrain. It's engine is strong and mine with turbo out performce the Toyota's 2.8 by far.
Mine is a 1990 F75 Turbo Diesel and you should look closely at engine/gearbox leaks, smooth shifting of the gears, and if the diff's don't have too much bearing slack.
Check out my pictures to see what I did with mine and believe me it's mud offroading capability is unbelieveble.
I will post some more pic's in action soon.
So buying one for rough riding is not a bad idea.
Good luck,
Gilly
PS can you give me good sites like this one but than for Toyota?

Hi Neil
Go for it bud !! I have a 95 Independent, which ive had for about 5 years,in my opinion, its all things to all men(and women of course!)Its bulletproof, has never once let me down, and above all, have on more than one occassion, pulled defenders out of the mud..and thats with a standard all terrain tyre on..only thing I insist on, is that the oil is changed every 3000 miles or so..the other big plus point is how economical it is on long motorway stints, I live just south of Manchester, and can get down to wiltshire..some 200 miles,on half a tank.Look forward to seeing you in as an owner. Take care. Colin
