Forum:
Hi all,
Sorry if this has been covered before, which a tenner says it has? ha ha but i'm a newbie and need answers quick as wanna purchase some new wheels and tyres very soon.
I've just purchased an OLD C'reg 2.8TD Fourtrak (estate) for off-roading, and seriously need to get some bigger wheel/tyres for it, as the ones on it are the originals and look not alot bigger then car tyres.
My mate's got a newly purchased Sportrak, and he's got some 31X10.5 R15's which are the same as my Pajero, he reckons a Fourtrak can takes these as well? Im not sure!!
Everything I've found on eBay is 30X9.5's, or Range Rover wheels that are 5 stud with dumper tyres on, will these fit my Fourtrak? Also would 195 X R15's from a Suzuki Vitara fit as well?
Can somebody give me a list of sizes that'll fit the Fourtrak which are good for off-roading please, so I know what I can get? Im looking for a set to give me a bit more ground clearance and traction.
Im dying to use her off-road, in my opinion they wipe the floor with everything else, now I've got me own, I wanna get most out of her.
Plus this is also a very lame question I know, but on the drivers door it describes how to use the 4x4 system, it mentions free wheeling hubs or something, and talks about ensuring they are on when using the 4x4, how do I know if i've got them, and how do I engage them? Again details and info will be much appreciated!!
Thanks everyone for taking the time in reading my post, and I hope you all have a good weekend,
Cheers,
Shaun (shaunlfc1)
Rangrover / Landi wheels
Rangrover / Landi wheels will not fit. The studs do not line up. Suzuki, Lada Niva, CJ Jeep wheels will. 31/10.50-15's will fit, though I'd go smaller if you are fitting agressive tyres (Cananika's, Dimond Back / Grizzly Claws) to a standard car. I found my F80 (SWB Petrol) did well enough (both trialing and green laning) on 215-15 Dimond Backs. Of course these are a retread (stuck round an old 215-15 tyre) with an alarming amount of tread depth. So they actually stand about the same hight as a 30/9.50-15. You do need to fit wider wheels, if your fitting larger tyres. Otherwise they'll just foul on the chassis, and you'll have an even worse turning circle than the standard.
The Free Wheeling Hubs can be found in the centre of the front wheels. If there is a 'dile' in the centre of the FWH you can turn, with an arrow on it, and the words 'free' and 'lock' on the outer part of the FWH, then they are Manual, and you need to make sure the arrow is pointing to 'lock' when in 4wd. If the FWH had no obvious dile, then it will be an auto hub, and you need not worry about it (as long as it is in working order) it will engage when you select 4wd.
Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.
