timing/cam belt
I've a 2.8 tdi too. My mechanic says yes it does have a belt which needs changing every 80,000km, but, the guy who recond. the engine for me said it didn't and I didn't need to worry about it. Anyone else got any input on this. Much appreciated.

The later Terbo Engines have a timing belt. As far as I'm aware all earlier 2.8's (&2.5's), have timming gears. Deffinatly no need to worry there.

Cam belt change
We have got a 1989 2.8 non turbo fourtrak and there is a little sticker on the air filter housing which tells you to change the cam belt every 5 years or 100,000 km.
