mpg.
Average mpg about 28mpg.
I have no idea how much sporty tanks will hold since I never let it run empty.
Contact gap should be 1mm.
SPORTY MPG
Hi
It really depends on how heavy your right foot is. On a long journey I'd expect to cruise at 65-70 and get 35-38 mpg. Obviously if I were to , dare I say , run at 80- 90MPH then it would devrease dratically.
I would say having run a Sportrak for 12 years that about 32mpg is average to good. It's quite heavy for a 1.6 motor and could do with a bit more clout
Spark plug gap is 1MM as for the size of the tank have a look in the handbook, I would think about 9 to 10 gallon. One part often over looked are the leads which do fail over a period and produce reduced ecomnomy. Replace these as well. There are some 8mm ones on Ebay New for £10.99 which is cheap and I have just put some on one of mine and it has improved acceleration. Whether it improves economy we will have to wait and see.
Your MPG does seem on the low side but as I said they are heavy and coupled with a heavy right foot MPG will be poor.
I have a K&N filter on mine but I see very little advantage other than freeing up space beneath the bonnet. Being an EFI there isn't verymuch you can do to improve matters your self. I would suggest if you are using that much them check for leaks, the smell of fuel usually indicates where and also take it to a tuner or have home tune out if they still exist who are capable of doing a diagnostic check on the set up. Ignore all these gadgets that offer improved performance for £4.99 by removing the air temperature sencor and replacing it with a diode attachment. A waste of time and £4.99. Check also the Disi cap and the rota arm, these do wear and are important for performance and economy.

Mpg from a Sporty
Hi - I normally get around 30-33mpg when commuting. Try keeping the revs down to no more than 4K and staying in the inside lane. Most similar 4x4s - vitaras, rav4s and freelanders seem to just cruise along at around 55-65mph, probably with an eye on the fuel gauge!
And according to the handbook, the tank holds 60 litres/13.2 gallons.
Hope that helps
