Dead 4track gearbox?

Forum:

Happy New Year everyone! For Christmas, I think I got a dead gearbox Cray 2

The 4track got me home after the usual visiting relatives run but died outside the house. It suddenly made an unpleasant noise engaging 1st gear then would not engage any gear at all. It seemed to be stuck in gear but the wheels were locked up and we couldn't even push it with the clutch in. I spent about half an hour fiddling with the gears until I managed to get it into neutral so we could get it parked legally. Now its been taken to my friend's garage on the back of a truck Sad

So I'm wondering...

1. Does this sound like the loose nut in the gearbox problem or is it a completely dead gearbox?

2. Where is a good place to get a recon/exchange box for a 1991 2.8TDX?

3. Are all the 2.8 Diesel 5-speed boxes the same or different?

Thanks for any help on this! I'm carless until it gets sorted...

Gavin.

Gearbox

Gav,

It sounds more like a clutch problem, mine made a grainding sound when engaging gears and when I adjusted the clutch it was gone.
Hope this solves,

I tend to agree with Gilly, sounds like a clutch, or more likely throwout bearing thats gone.
The answer to three is, not quite, Non Turbo gearboxes have slightly different ratios to Turbo ones, but its fairly insignificant. They all will bolt in, as far as I know.
