Forum:
If the clutch on my FT were slipping would it be more noticable in 5th gear or first gear? Have tried the "handbrake on and try & drive off in 1st gear" trick but the other day whilst driving up a hill in 5th, the revs suddenly went up. I could also replicate this on the flat with hard acceleration in 5th. Perhaps cable out of adjustment?
slipping clutch
Sounds like a classic case of slipping clutch, you could have oil on the clutch, have you got any leaks at the back end of the engine, or front of gearbox?,
if not sounds like clutch is past its sell by date, you need to get it done before you get stranded & have to get towed home!
Thanks...
for the info Steve.
I checked out the cable adjustment and there was no free travel at the pedal. Adjusted this and all now seems OK for the time being. The engine will stall with h/b on and in 5th gear so slip gone.
Have also found local garage who will do a clutch change for £290 +VAT when the time comes. They used to service the FT for the previous owner.
