Charade g100 radiator

Forum:

apparantly my radiator needs to be replaced, only the garage says its going to cost me 300€...
Is this fairly easy to replace myself? because i dont have to pay myself Blum 3

Charade radiator

Yep the radiator is easy to replace. One thing to check though after replacing the radiator is the water lavel. You need to fill the radiator then take it for a run or get it hot then check it again as there may have been an airlock in the cooling system.
Of course the main expense is not in the replacing but in the actual cost of the replacement radiator.
Don't forget to reconnect the radiator fan.

Charade radiator

I have a Fourtrak 2.8TDX 93. The radiator has been re-cored now twice in ten years by a local radiator repair company. The cost of re-coring (which is basically a refurbished radiator) is around £75 which is reasonable compared with the cost of a new radiator. Look for a local company who repair radiators and ask for a quote.

thanks for the advice so

thanks for the advice so far. A friend of mine suggested to go to a car demolisher (probably the wrong word but im dutch so..)
and get a used radiator there. of course depends if i can find a good one Biggrin

good idea or bad?
And what is re-coring? just to fill any leaks? or do they make the thing good as new?

re-coring

re-coring is basically as you said, make as good as new. The radiator is professionally dismantled and apart from the top/bottom and ends the rest(the core or matrix as it is known)which is prone to corrossion is new. Generally the units I had repaired have been spayed and give the impression of being a brand new radiator. I cannot imagine the price of new Fourtrak radiator but a professional refurbishment is in my opinion cost effective. You might try a commercial vehicle repairer who specialises in truck radiators which are more often than not refurbished than replaced new.
