'98 Sirion A/T Problems --- DESPERATELY want to convert to a manual

Forum:

When the car is cold, it could take up to 3 minutes for the transmission to go into Drive. It will go into Reverse, but with a loud THUD, and then of course the whole car shakes. Sometimes it misses 2nd gear when moving off, and it slips when gearing down from 4th to 3rd. I'm sick of it, and here (Barbados), it'll cost more than what I paid for the car in order to have it fixed. I'd rather spend the money converting it to a manual. Which brings me to my question...

What parts will I need? A gearbox, clutch kit & pedal, etc. But will the driveshafts work, or will they also need to be replaced?

I've been told that the manual gearbox found in the Mira will work in this, but what about the driveshafts? I'm curious because I've found a Mira which was rear-ended pretty badly and I'm thinking of buying it for the parts if they'll work.

Thanks in advance for any help!

hi there,
dunno if you've sorted out your problem yet but it sounds like the box is low in oil.. I had been checking my oil incorrectly for some time before i found out there was a hot and cold level on the stick! I'd just never paid attention but the difference 500ml of transmission fluid makes is critical! I learned the hard way (my gearbox packed it in!) if it turns out to be the case there's no harm in changing the oil completely, especialy if the car has high miles done. Also have a look at the various seals around the box.. oil could be escaping somewhere.. hope it helps! As for converting.... I'm half way through converting my 94 detomaso.. it's been a bit of a heart breaker but i'm nearly there! Finding parts has been so hard!
