Forum:
Hi all.
How would one check, for a broken front axle halfshaft ????. Would it be held in place or would it work it way out of the axle casing.
Just a query ???? as I have never heard of any one breaking front or rear on a Fourtrak, used to snap them often on L/Rs.
It won't work it's way out
It won't work it's way out as it's a fully free floting shaft. The hub is held in place between two barings. The u.j. is a more likely target to break, or the FWH.
Try jacking up one front wheel with car in 4x4 and FWH's locked. You shouldn't be able to turn the lifted wheel more than an inch or two in either direction. If you can there is a problem. If the wheel turns freely , but the front prop does not move the problem is one of the FWH / U.J.'s / half shafts. I'd try taking the FWH apart and cleaning / lubricating them first personaly.
Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.
Broken front halfshaft
Many thanks Nev.
I do not have a problem ,this was just a query for future reference.
