Forum:
Hi,
The drivers club forums have no imformation on my problem, what soever! So has it happened to anyone else? please dont say i am the only one on this site to suffer a completely blocked water jacket on my oil cooler.
If their is someone out their thats found a way to unblock one i'd kiss your butt on the town hall steps if you tell me how you unblocked it because i've tried everything i know.
Thanks in advance
Phil.
FAIRY............
I don't know my way arround a 4trak engine, However, I have had cars in the past with poor circulation of coolant but never blocked:?
:puzzled:, All anyone will sugest you have probably tried (remove all ruber pipes and flush out system) you could try to dislodge some of the muck by poking welding wire to where you think the blockage is(be carefull not to damage anything). Also What I have done in the past is put a(FAIRY...or top brand) dishwasher tablet in the top of the radiator run for a few hours and drain and rinse the system, and repeat until crean then refill with antifreeze and water. However that only worked on cars with poor circulation I cant say it will work on a blocked one.
Where do you live? or is it a hard water area? Its not imposable that limescale could have caused the blockage over time, try some kettle desacaler (calgon) in the blocked area.

I know exactly what you are
I know exactly what you are talking about. I had both coolant lines, fittings, and oil cooler completely clogged with crap on a replacement motor I bought.
Because of the shape of the cooler, and more importantly the inlets, the wire trick isnt going to do it. I had mine suspended in an acid bath (used for engine block cleaning) for 24 hrs with no improvement. Face facts, its a paperweight now.
Solution, firstly, remove the oil filter, coolant lines, and fittings from the block, clear the hole in the block at the rear, this will be full of crap, so a good block flush will be needed. I had to use a hammer and screwdriver to break through the built up crap inside the fitting. Fit a new brass fitting to the block, with a 90 deg bend facing forward. Run a new coolant line from this fitting along the side of the block to the waterpump fitting, bypassing the oil cooler completely.
Now, the oil cooler fitting has 2 holes in an alloy plate, which is angled, just to make things more interesting. Tap a thread in each hole to suit a barbed brass fitting, then fit a remote oil cooler in front of the radiator. If I remember correctly, I even ground a flat at right angles to the oil cooler holes, into the alloy face, to help with fitting the barbed fittings. This has done me well for about 5 years now.
Have fun.
