Blitz Stainless Air filter off Impreza Classic. Will it fit the YRV Turbo?

Forum:

Hi All,

As a daily run-a-bout I recently purchased a '53' plate yellow YRV turbo with just 22,500 miles on the clock. As a person who has owned 2 Subaru Imprezas, 1 of them being a 2000 reg classic shape which I later traded in for a '53' plate WRX STi which now boasts a few mods and now use as a weekend car (insurance and running costs). I have left over from my classic a Stainless steel Blitz air filter. Will this fit as a replacement to the standard YRV air-box? Noticed on the image gallaeries that a couple of people on here are running their YRV Turbos with aftermarket filters. I take it the pipe that connects the aftermarket filter to the rubber hose comes with the aftermarket kit? Or is this something you find inside the stock standard air-box? As the Blitz did not come with any extra fittings.

Cheers.

Jon.

Scooby air filter - does it fit YRV Turbo?

Others who have done this may know better, but I suspect that your filter wont fit without some modification.

Those who have changed filters tend to go for the (expensive) Blitz induction kit or the cheaper K&N Filter (57-0156) for various Ford Escorts and adapt it to fit.

I imagine it's all about getting the reducers/adapters to make it fit.

On a side note, I'd like to see a 'how to' with this kit for the YRV Turbo as its 50% of the Blitz price. Wink

Thanks YRV130. I have a

Thanks YRV130. I have a feeling the blitz SUS I have may fit under the bonnet. But as you say need an adapter to connect it to the rubber hose part. Anyone have any ideas where I can get an adapter from?

YRV Turbo mods

I am the person who fitted the K&N fiesta filter on my old YRV. If you look at the in the Image Galleries there is a photo on the 2nd page of the Modifications section. So yes it can be done just use your imagination. I have also previously fitted an escort Cosworth K&N to a Honda civic and also a Subaru Impreza one to a Honda Civic.
I'm also about to search for a K&N for my new Daihatsu Mira Avanzato that I picked up today.
I don't believe in paying over the odds for a brand when you can modify something so simply. Smile

Blitz arrived by Special Delivery and now fitted to the YRV....

Took a little bit longer to fit due to not having the right tools for the job. But managed in the end. Now got my self a full kit of spanners and sockets and wrench.

Well first impressions, I can now hear the whoosh! And if I'm not mistaken fuel economy and acceleration have improved . So really happy. Smile

My Blitz SUS came with

My Blitz SUS came with everything required.
Looking at them both they don't appear to be inter changeable.
I require a Blitz for my Scooby.
How much?
Dave.

Hi Dave, This forum seems

Hi Dave,

This forum seems to be playing up a little as your response shows in the middle of some older ones. Biggrin

Been speaking with someone in the know. And they tell me that that the Impreza blitz will not fit, as you cannot get Samco hoses to go from a large circumference to a small one. So I will be getting rid. How much do you want to spend?

As you have a blitz for your YRV. Where Can I get one for Mine? Are they the same as a Yaris? Help

Jon.

Blitz

Hi Jon.
How about we do a straight swop?
My YRV one is stainless steel and as new.
Cost about 170 quid I think.
Makes a nice whooshing sound!
I have a K&N on my Scooby but I have heard some doubtful reports on it.
I have just re-advertised the YRV with no mention of Blitz so I can take it off.
Where do you live?
I am in South Warwickshire.
Dave.

Sounds like a good idea......

Hi Dave,

Sounds like a good idea. I'm in South Cheshire. Know what you mean about the whoosh. Got the same when I had the Blitz fitted to my/then classic turbo 2000 scooby.
The blitz I have is a couple of years old. Yet I only had it fitted on the car for a couple of months, before my heart felt like something quicker and newer. I.e now have the STi. Still have it in the original box with the bolts and bit that keeps it bolted to the car (can provide piccies). It didn't come with anything extra. So I'm under the impression it will bolt on to something that's already in the OE airbox (Had the filter professionally fitted when I had a Magnex oval system and new 17" alloys fitted at the sametime, and had it taken off by the dealership on it's last service).

The only thing I can suggest is if we post each other the filter. Unless you want to meet somewhere in between?

Jon.

I didn't notice any

I didn't notice any difference in performance or fuel economy on mine but the whoosh made it worthwhile!
Dave.

Have noticed an improvement to the pick up....

Hi Dave,

Have noticed an improvement in the acceleration repsonse. Yet the fuel economy must have been a red herring. As before the fuel gauge is dropping down just as fast as with the normal filter. Needle is on half way and only done 120 miles! Shok Last time I got 160Miles at this point witht he blitz fitted. Can't see any fuel leaks, must be the 4 speed box. Sad
