Diesel cambelt change / maintenance schedule

My information says:
check at: 50,000Km (31,250 miles)
replace at: 100,000Km (62,500 miles)

Strictly speaking the cambelt starts wearing the minute you start using it and a change at 6yrs would be recomended, although I tend to stretch (no pun intended) it out to the milage intervals.

Hope this helps!

Cam Belt Change

Cam Belts are one of those items that promotes debate with usually two camps aruging when it's best tochange.

Manufacturers often quote a mileage (Say 40,000) to change a cambelt (and all ancilleries/idler/maybe water pump etc)

The truth is if you have documentation saying that the vehicle is well maintained (with stamps and reciepts etc i.e history)then those intervals can usually be regarded as a good guide. If, however you come across a vehicle that hasn't any proof as above that maintenance has been carried out then it would be wise to have the cam belt checked for condition etc as a MINIMUM. It is best to replace any belts thats you are unsure about. Although the cost may seem high, having a cambelt snap or slip on an interrupter engine will have disasterous and very expnsive consequences. my advice is...if in doubt then change the belt and ancills to be on the safe side.
