Forum:
My 98 Terios shakes and vibrates violently when it gets to 80K, stops at 85K and sometimes has a slight vibration around 40K. Have had the driveshaft turned, replaced the U joint & driveshaft bearing, the motormount and transmission mount, balanced and aligned the frontend and tires all to no avail. Has anyone else experienced this and/or can offer some help/suggestion as to what to do to stop this?
VIBRATION
Firstly I have no knowledge of the Terios but I am familier with most vehicle basics.
There are a number of items that can cause Vibration from Prop shaft to tyre inbalnce. I note that you have had the front tyres balanced but the rears can cause a viration if out of balance. In addition worn steering joint, and this is where my lack of knowledge on the Terios comes in, a warn steering rack or box. Is the vibration on the steering wheel or throughout the car? I had this many years back and it was a bent Macpherson strut, I think, as the car went to the scrappy after an kiss with a wall before I confirmed it.
Hope this has been of some use in considering other areas like worn shocks, broken springs, waorn steering and rear imbalance. Sorry I couldn't be more specific.

Thank you Oldminiman
The vibration is throughout the whole vehicle - everything rattles and shakes, but only at the speed between 80K and 85K & then it stops and runs nicely. At any other speeds, the vehicle runs smoothly except is beginning to have a slight vibration at 40K. We know of other vehicles with this same problem who have replaced their driveshafts and still have the problem. Thought maybe this was some recall from Daihatsu we were unaware of. Been systematically replacing things and it's getting expensive. Thanks again.
viberberation 80kperhour terios what is the problem have checked the u joint's -drive shaft rear end
Propshaft
Has the propshaft been disconnected and refitted to the wrong flange?
the vibration on mine was
the vibration on mine was caused by a missing spigot bearing on our fourtrak was only £6 so dont kno why they never fitted it and our goes well now
own a volvo 940 se desial and a fourtrak 2.8 turbo desial
vibration
ANOTHER THOUGHT IS, HAVE A LOOK AT THE TYRES. I HAVE AN AUDI AND PUT UP WITH A VIBRATION FOR SOME TIME ONLY TO FIND THAT IT WAS A BULGE ON THE TREAD OF THE TYRE, NOT THE SIDE WALL. TT WAS CAUSED BY TYRE FAILURE ACROSS THE WIDTH OF THE TREAD AND UNOTICABLE EXCEPT FOR THE VIBRATION WHICH CAME AND WENT. THE ONLY TIME YOU WOULD NOTICE IT WAS WHEN THE TREAD WORE LOW ON A PATCH OF TYRE. ONCE REPLACED NO MORE VIRATION. iT IS POSSIBLE THAT ONE OR A NUMBER OF TYRES COULD HAVE A DEFECT OF THIS NATURE AND i RECALL THE SAME ON MY SPORTRAK USING NEW GENERAL 2000 TYRE. ONE DEVELOPED A SIDE WALL FAILURE AFTER ABOUT 200 MILES. AGAIN THE VIRATION WAS NOTICABLE. OF COURSE GENERAL SAID I'D HIT A KERB WHICH I HADN'T. IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY CHECKED THE PRESSURES THEN DO SO AS THIS CAN CAUSE PROBLEMS AS WELL.
