cabin heater running cool..... Fourtrak TDX

Forum:

Can anyone help, my Fourtrak refuses to blow hot air from the heater, the best it can accomplish is a trickle of warm air, when I bought it the top hose to the heater matrix was leaking & had clearly done so for a while, so I replaced it, added rad flush ran the system until hot, flushed it and added anti freeze, I then replaced the stat and eagerly departed for a test drive... to no avail, it still runs at the same temp'

Has anyone had the same problem & if so how have they managed to cure it.

Nick.

Sounds like you have an air

Sounds like you have an air lock in the heater matrix. You might have to force coolent through it to clear the air out. With the heater set to the 'hot as it goes' setting, disconect one of the heater hoses from the block. Put a hose pipe onto the matrix pipe, and turn it on. You'll get plenty of water pouring out of the block, where the pipe should be atached. Run the hose for a min. Turn off the hose pipe, and imediatly turn the heater temp to cold, and leave it there while you reconect the heater to the block, and top up the coolent. Take it for a test drive.
If nothing has changed, try the other heater hose.
If after the second try nothing has changed, try repeating with the car parked pointing up a slope.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.

not sure if the same

not sure if i had the same prob as you when i got my 94 ind 4trak i get warm air to windscreen and footwell which heats up cab quick enough for me but no hot air out of vents on dash which i was told on here was normal due to allowing cooler air on to face to prevent tiredness that was after i dismantled dash to find the air director thingy working fine.not sure if this is perfectly correct someone in the know might comfirm for us but i'm fine with mine working this way but as i say yours could be totaly different if your getting no warm air at all but just thought i'd share this with you.

Thermosat or matrix.

Did you replace with the correct type of thermostat? Daihatsu use a longer version thermostat rather than the conventional type used in most other cars. The thermostat is longer so the wax expander fits deeper into the coolant and it also has a toggle in the flange. If you fitted the incorrect smaller thermostat then it wont open as specified. The thermoststat must be inserted with the toggle as high as possible to vent air from the cylinder block.

Other ..... did you flush the matrix to check if it is blocked?

Cool Dude

Begin by running the vehicle until it is warm, feel the radiator to see if it is getting warm, if so it is a heater problem.
Begin by setting the heater control valve in the hot position, remove both feed pipes and using a hosepipe, flush through, if no water comes through it is either a blocked heater matrix, or a faulty heater valve, these often sieze shut if left in the cold position for long periods, usually over summer.
As you have used a cleaner in the system, it is possibly a build up of debris in the matrix, this is not unusual. Alternate the hose between each of the pipes until it runs clear, if it does not run it is possibly the heater control valve, operate this by hand, or with pliers to free it off.
Fourtrak's are not prone to airlocks, but to be sure, when filling the system ensure the front of the vehicle is raised slightly, fill with a watering can, slowly, while massaging the radiator top hose to expel any air.
