Vibrations when idling

Forum:

Hi,

Rocky F78 turbo diesel, recently replace clutch plate, came back with irritating vibrations at certain speeds. Had prop balanced which sorted this out BUT there are still serious vibrations when she idles. These vibrations go away when driving (so it seems) but return when idling - the whole car seems to shake. Where should I begin to isolate this?

Thanks
Ross

Did the replacement of the clutch involve the removal of the engine? If so, my money is on an incorrectly bled fuel system.

Shake Rattle and Roll

Several possibilities:

Engine or gearbox mountings could have been damaged during the clutch replacement, this would cause this.

Clutch assembly incorrectly fitted, or out of balance.

Engine idling speed incorrect, too slow.

Poor fuel feed, or blocked filters, providing inadequate pressure or flow to the fuel injection pump, or a fuel line sucking in air which may have been caused when changing the clutch.

Air leak somewhere in the induction side causing a weak mixture when idling.

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for this list - I feel that it is one of the mountings or the clutch assembly is incorrectly fitted/out of balance.
The replacement did not involve removing the engine.
I'll also follow the fuel feed to check for air leaks.

Much obliged.
