moving seats around in our hijet

Forum:

Hi Everyone

We have just bought a 1.3 silver hijet MPV which we're really pleased with and want to change the seating pattern so we can use the space in the back better.
basically we want to take out the middle 2 seats and move the bench seat forward, We both read a post by someone who did just that a few weeks ago but now we cant find it.??

I guess you would have to get some new points welded in to bolt it to and sort out the rear clip in part too but my questions are

1) do we have to get it to comply for mot requirements - ie do the welds need to be examined and passed by someone or certificated in some way
2)do we need to notify the insurance company

also we saw someone who had drawings for a camper van conversion would be great to get hold of those too.

thanks very much

moving seats around

What you are proposing might be a bit complicated to complete, especially with the moving of seatbelts. I thought seatbelts could only be secured at certain points on the vehicle, but someone more experienced like DaihatsuDave or oldminiman might know. They seem to know stuff.

I think its M4X who moved his bench seat forward, but I can't quite remember. You should send him a message and maybe he can clarify.

I considered this too at one time, but I decided to just take out the middle seats. That way, I have a nice big area to work in when canoeing or studying, or a else a space sleep in. Don't forget, if you leave the bench seat in the back, it can be folded up nicely to allow further storage space.

Absolutely awesome little vans aren't they?

moving the seats round

hi there
thanks for your post, I can see your point re the seat belts but i was thinking i could just use the central seat belt set up. they seem to be the same on our van i think - its from 2000 - now im not so sure think ill go and have another look!! - were having a bit of an over heating thing now, as i said we just bought the van and drove it 200 miles home without a problem but now it seems to be overheating - seems like a common problem

im really pleased though I think they are brilliant as well , well probably do the same with middle seats - hey maybe get a table in there.

all the best

Moving Seats

Why not live with the separates in the centre? the bench seat will only seat 2 and the centre seats are the basically same as the cab seats so more comfortable...although comfort is relative.

How much cargo/luggage space do you need?

In a past life I had a Bedford Rascal with twin Corbeau GT4 recliners fitted slightly aft of the centre doors this gave me a decent amount of luggage space even with four passengers on board.

Said seats had 4 pointseat belts...yes like a rally car and these were fastened into the floor with the manufacturer's mounting kit which strengthened the three sheets of kit kat wrapper which made up the body Biggrin

AFAIK seat belts do not have to be single hand fastening, at least the Rascal passed every MOT with the 4 point mountings. I had thought about a Hi-Jet six seater with the rear bench removed as transport before I purchased my latest transport of delight a Move/Kenari.
