Problem with heater not getting hot (previous post) flushed water system out 5 times. checked thermostat, that's ok. checked for airlocks. When the engines been running an hour the temp gauge only just above the cold mark. Can anybody tell me what to try next. Freezing my nuts off.
Heater core? Heater control
Heater core? Heater control valve? You system might not be pressurising thus its not heating. Check things like radiator cap etc. My sporty takes no time at all to heat up.
Heater
Maybe along shot but we had a smimlar problem on VW Lupo earlier this year, flushed cooling system, bled all the air out, hoses got hot, car ran normally but the heater matrix remained stone cold.Removed and replaced thermostat. Temp guage up to normal but no heater.
Eventually found the water pump had failed.
Might be worth checking the drive belt and pump itself.
get to maplins
Not the best answer but a short term solution would be get a cigar ligher electric blanket, massage chair or fan heater. be carefull not to overload the socket.

I got them in my land rover as the heater is useless.

Thermostat
If heater remains cold then check if the radiator is hot. I am not being difficult but it could be the thermostat stuck open or of incorrect degree centigrade. If the main rad remains cool then the thermostat is stuck in the open position. My guess is the thermostat.
Has the correct type of thermostat been fitted? Its a long reach thermostat [£17] with the toggle fitted at the highest position to bleed any air locks.
If rad gets very hot but no matrix heater then check the water pump. The heater is on the engine side of the coolant. If bottom of rad gets very hot but heater matrix remains cool/cold, then the water pump is knackered.
