8X15 WHEELS

Forum:

HI IM AFTER A SET OF 8X15 STEEL WHEELS PREFERABLY 5 TO FIT MY ROCKY SO I CAN USE MY 33/12.5/15 MACHO TYRES ANY HELP APRICIATED.

think you will find using

think you will find using tyres that size will actually hinder you off road especially in the mud and slippy surfaces

THE SPEC OF VEHICLE

Hi the vehicle there going on has 2" lifted suspension 1.5" body lift the reason i want them is the last time i went greenlaning i got stuck due to the diffs being to low got 30/9.5r15 on already power is not an issue with a 3.9 v8 in it pulls like a train as far as you dare to take it.There are plenty of people using them they cant be that bad.
Does anyone on here have experience of this size first hand.

Tyred Out

Fitted them to my old beast, this had a 6.5 litre supercharged V8 diesel producing 300 BHP, not a puny Rover petrol unit, getting the power down was the biggest problem the vehicle had. Fitted steel rims with a 25mm offset as these were the largest offset i could find at a reasonable price, on top of this i manufactured some 30mm spacers in steel, giving 55mm of offset, and needing serious surgery to the front wings.

Found that two sets of rims were best, one were fitted with Pit Bull tyres imported from the States, now available in the UK, these were great for solid surfaces such as rock crawling, and other prediminantly solid surfaces.
Diamond Backs were used for mud or soft ground conditions, these were obtained through a friend in the tyre trade, found these capable of handling the phenominal torque of the diesel unit, as other tyres simply lost traction in the soft stuff.

tyres

I am using standard gearing on 35's and get through almost anything. I cant see size being an issue for traction. I have been up some stupidly steep and muddy places.

WHEELS

Hi what size wheels are you running them on and approx offset as i can get 33/12.5r15 easier and cheaper than 33/10.5r15

Oversized

To use these wheels you will need a considerable offset on the rims, or extremely thick wheel spacers to prevent the rubber from hitting the chassis on full lock. In addition to this you will require a 2" suspension lift to prevent them fouling the bodywork on full suspension travel.

You will also need to alter the stops to lessen the amount of steering lock you can apply.

off set

You might be better off with slightly wider rims, the fat boy ones on the vitara fit, but also you can get 32mm spacers on ebay. Its not the width these old fourtracks need its the height cos of there large diffs are a pain in the bum when it comes to ruts etc.

Full of ideas but no time to do them!!
