Sportrak

Forum:

Hi
First post - be gentle with me:0)
Just bought a 96 sportrak and cannot find any information about changing the bulb on the heater panel. Is there one there or am I destined to fumbling in the dark?

Thanks

Clive

There are 2 of them - the

There are 2 of them - the small capless type.

Pull off the heater control knobs, then with a small flat bladed screwdriver prise off the panel. Remove the bulbs at each end.

Bulbs

I used a couple of 12v Xmas tree bulbs. Much cheaper and you can choose your colour!

Light

Forget bulbs, if you know how to wire an LED (light emitting diode) in, use these, they are available in 12volt, with the integral resister; these last considerably longer than bulbs and are cheaper. LED's are also available as LED bulbs, i.e. the element is replaced with an LED and it is fitted to a standard bulb holder; they come in a range of colours, and standard bulb styles.

HEATER LIGHTS

I have only ever found 1 bulb in my 1991 and 1996 Sportraks behind the heater facia on the passenger side. To remove the facia firstly remove the 4 knobs which simply push on then remove the small square where the air conditioning switch would be. This will allow you to get a finger in behind the facia and ease it out of its clips without scratching the facia. Be gentle and it will come out, the last part is the worst. The bulb holder is at the rear or the passenger side of the facia and a quasrter turn will release the holder. The bulb is a tiny pull out job and you should have no problem in finding a replacement. If you have problems getting the swine out use a tiny bored rubber tube to grip it with, or if you are gentle some long nose pliers. Replacement of the faci once the light is working is a reverse of the above with the A/C blanking square going in last.
