buying a fourtrak

Forum:

I have been thinking of buying a fourtrak and have tried a couple as an alternative to a LR T90, my wife is even willing to drive one. However I'm not sure what the parts situation is like. There seems to be an enourmous industry supporting Land Rover in the UK, could I be sure that things like transmission components etc. could be found if I needed them. If there are problems with some parts availability, would it be better to buy a later Independent than the rigid front axle pre 1993 model?
Thanks

Fourtrak Virgin

Firstly; there are never going to be the supplies of components that LR has, nor the abundance of secondhand spares, that said, Fourtrak's do not use anywhere the amount of spares that Land Rover's do as they are inherently more reliable and durable. Spares are available for all models of Fourtrak, along with a good amount of expertise.

As for which model; it depends upon your usage, budget, and specific requirements; independent's ride and handle better but suffer slightly off road. Non independent's suffer slightly on road, but perform better off road, they are all excellent performers off road, and the differences are marginal.
