Cam Belt

Forum:

Hi all,

Can anyone advise me? I'm about to change the timing belt on my F78 will I need to change the idler and tensioner as well?

Many thanks

Timed To Perfection

Yes, always change the lot; the extra cost is well worth the extra piece of mind, for how often they need changing it is not a lot of money.

Over the years i have seen many belts which have been changed without the new idlers and tensioners, the bearings wear and cause the belts to track out, the sides of the belts wear and they snap, result; many times it has been a new engine.

Replacing timing belts

Thats great many thanks, are there any locking tools needed it's first time doing a timing belt, I will be under the watchful eye of my cousin who is a mechanic. He recommends marking the pulleys, but i wonder if there is a kit or trick to it.
