Fourtrak Gearing prob

Forum:

Hi All,

I'm new to Daihatsu's, 4x4's and anyhting such related so forgive my ingnorance.

I am having a prob with my fourtrak's gears, it's sporadicly not going in to 2nd or 1st and sometimes when going in to 2nd it's crunching as it the clutch isn't down at all. However when in low gear ratio it's changing gears fine without any probs.

Any thoughts?

Many thanks

Simon

sounds like synco hubs are

sounds like synco hubs are the problem, especially if its when changing down from 3-2 2-1 in high

re gearing problem

Thanks For the response i checked out the nuts on thegearbox that apparently come loose they are fine you had mentioned the synco hubs how can i pinpoint if its these or not cheers Dan

not easy other than via the

not easy other than via the way you have described, a synco hub contains whats called baulk rings that slow the gear hubs down when your changing gear, these are normally phoshor bronze rings which wear, and repair is via replacement, i assume you have checked your oil is the right level and is of the right viscosity, remember years ago someone with a car coming to me with similar problems, turned out the previous owner had been using sae 30 in the gearbox in place of 90 thinking it would be a better lube as it was thinner, a change to the correct oil cured the problem

re gearing

Thanks for the response i need to check the gearbox levels it's slightly leaking form the back plate which looks as if its held on by 10 or 13 mm bolts so was going to try and get new gaskets any ieas where and at the sametime drain and replace the oil what rading do i need Unknw also the synco hubs how much are they and where again just in case i have to do them are they an easy replacement oncethe gearbox is out cheers dan

2nd gear blocking

'91 Fourtrak 2.8 TDX

Hi.
I have a similar problem, check my posts, via the search facility (ews). below 1000 rpm, 2nd egages, most times, other than that double de-clutching by bringing the revs really high, helps !!!!!!, also jumping out of 2nd when power on/off situations due to gear not fully engaging. No noise apparent when in gear ,all gears quiet. Just difficulty to engage 2nd, seems we have the same problem !!!! Drained main gearbox oil had copper/bronze sheen on surface . Wonder if heavy engine braking has caused this problem ????, rather than use a foot brakes

Gear Problem

Hi all,
This is common problem with fourtrac especially with 2nd gear, it is a loose bolt/nut inside gearbox that needs tightening up,not too big a job, there are loads of posts on forum about this so have a read through, basically it comes loose and makes gear hard to engage usually 2nd. hope this helps mark....

Loose bolt/nut

Is this loose bolt/nut in the gearbox or the gear selector?

Is this easy to get at or would I be looking at taking the Gearbox out?

thanks

Simon

gearbox

http://www.daihatsu-drivers.co.uk/node/8073 read this link nut is on mainshaft in gearbox, very common on fourtraks, must be about 50 posts on subject in forums so have a look through you may find it explained better in other posts think its a 30 or 32mm nut good luck regards mark...
