upgradeing

Forum:

I would like to ask anyone for some advice about doing some upgrades to my fourtrak but dont no where to start on this.I would like to make a roof rack and lift the suspension and would like to here from anyone that has done this as i am new to this but am willing to learn.I have done some upgrades but they were not to challenging and nead get my teeth into a bit more.

model

daihatsu fourtrak independant riviera2 short wheel base

bits

roof rack should be easier on yours than mine which has the high back roof, lifting may be a problem with it being coils, been looking for some higher ones myself, only problem is stability especially on corners as you are lifting the center of gravity
if your going serious off road then i would try to locate a snorkel, add 80/20 tyres if you dont drive it too far on road, high lift jack, spade, spotlights and decent reversing light, decent towing web strop theres a few things to be getting on with

upgrade

I was told it was the short wheel base but it has the high back roof aswell is this the short wheel base.I put in extra tail lights at the sides where the plastic cover plats were and wired them up to the original lights and are all working fine.I will have to sweet talk the wife to let me put the snorkel on though Biggrin .

i thought the same, however

i thought the same, however talking to milners i was asked for the chassis number, minesw a f78 which apparently is a long, what i did find strange though is i got a rear jockey seat from a long, mine does not have the correct hole placements for it

good idea on the extra lights but out in the rough the reverse does not throw enough light for safe reversing in my mind, the snorkle-mm i dont do a lot of water work but in one place the angle i decend into a crossing puts my intake very close to the water which if a bit higher would be sucked in

what i was told on the high backs was weld brackets straight to the washers under the mounting holes on the roof,

there is a series of holes

there is a series of holes up the back of the back section and i thought about fixing it to that as it would spread the load evenly up both sides with flat 6mm plate.

I am not feeling to good about my fourtrak at the moment as i just found out today that it was a grey import and so far what i thought was a easy fix turned out to be a nightmare on my exaust and will have to wait for a bit to come from england but once it is done i will be happy as i wont have to use my dads car(nissan micra)and i will have a bit off comfirt again.

holes

basically i was told to weld directly to the washers in the holes on the rear roof then quesch with water, must admit i would not be happy trying it as the roof aint metal - its resin, without looking the only way i can think of would be to use tube, washer welded into the bottom and use a long socket to put the bolts in, that way you have the tubes to build your rack off, alloy would be the better option but welding it would not be easy, must look at these back section holes, i want a single side mounting just to get my fishing rods on as they are a pain inside the trak

bracket

i thought about useing the flat steel as a bracket and small box section welded to a roof bar for the front that way i dont have anything to worry about like melting the resin and i might be able to spray it the same colour as my daihatsu.I think you do get kits for mounting fishing rods on and they fix to your bonit and your roof but not sure where you can get them.Best bet is to try your local fishing rod suppliers and they might be able to help with that.If not you can always look on ebay as they sell anything on there.
