Forum:
Have a 1994 sportrak 1.6efi which has failed mot on the emmisions.
Had head off and found 2 valves burned out, now replaced.
Still running rich.
Could it be the Lamda sensor
is there anyway of checking.

LAMDA
Could be this or the Cat given up. Has the failing garage suggested a solution. I am sure the 1994 requires the CAT in the UK.
Cats can either be obtained second hand off ebay and the like or go direct to PARTCO or a similar factor, it is cheaper. The Lamda sensor should show up on a diagnostics test and as far as I am aware that is the only way of testing them. If you look back through the postinfgs on this forum you will find I posted a detailed explanation on a few occaisions on how to test sensore by shorting the diagnostics plug. Problem is I can't recall whether this sensor is included. beware the Lamda's are expensive, £75+ or there abouts. The fuel to air mixture is carried out from the various sensors by the Engine Management Unit and is constantly monitored and adjusted automatically. As far as I am aware it is only the Carb aspirated cars that have a manual mixture adjuster and they were all pre 1990 or there abouts certainly not the 1994 injection model.

Also have 1994 Sporty 1.6 EFI
I have a truck the same as yours, yet I live on the otherside of the planet in New Zealand, where we don't need catalytic converters at all. First thing I did was pull mine out and weld up a 2 1/2" system with one muffler.
Move to New Zealand. Much better. Lol.
Good Luck with ya truck though mate!
J reg and earlier
It too early in the morning to work out the year of production but if its J reg and pre September, it does not need a catylist. Its MOT legal with longer front pipe plus exhaust box. Much cheaper ..... find the part numbers on:

Emission .... I assume you have tried adjusting the fuel mixture screw?
