Just about to buy this.....

Forum:

Hi, this is my first post. Got the off road bug on this year's Plymouth to Timbuktu challenge and am just about to purchase this 1996 FOURTRAK FIELDMAN TDS.... can anyone give me some info on it please. Specifically - suspension, cambelt, camchain or (hopefully) gears etc.

TIA

short wheel base. coils on

short wheel base. coils on rear torsion bars to front, dump the tyres they are a liability in the muck, raise the front using the torsion bar adjusters under the body under the seats area, lights in general are crap because of the center black shoud,no matter what bulbs you use, get milner replacements that improves the beam, being the van reversing is a pain as the light thrown by the standard lights cant be seen, you need better reversing lights, other than that looks a nice clean trak

Just about to buy this.....

Hi

Looks a nice clean vehicle. If you buy it run it for a while before going mad as you may find that you need to do very little. There is a standing division on tyres, AT, M/S etc. I run my two one on AT and the other on M&S. The problems are how the vehicle is used and not necessarily what they look like. One is better on road the other off road but the best thing to do is suck it and see. My AT are from HANKOOK that great unknown, last forever, grip like the pervebial. My others are more like those on the scholl run brigades, useless on Mud and slip in the wet, can't wait to change them. The AT's are noisier on tarmak whilst the other "duellers" I think are quite.

As I say looks a nice car. Check for rust in the chassis arounf the rear spring hangers, fit some steps, not bars and have some fun first. THEN IF YOU GET SERIOUS FIT UPRATED SPRINGS AND LIFTS, A SNORKEL IF YOU ARE IN FOR RIVER DRIVING ETC ETC, THE LIST IS ENDLESS. If you need more rear like look out fro an old mini rear spot like they had on the rally cars, They gave a better spread of light. If you fit anything more powerful remomber to check the legal side of it and make sure it has an illuminated switch.

Thanks for all that

Thanks for all that information guys. What about the timing belt or is it a chain or gears?

Timing Belt

Will be a belt and unless you have proof of it being renewed either in the last 60K miles or 6 years then get it replaced...cheaper than a new motor.

GOD LUCK
