Forum:
We own a 1985 Daihatsu Fourtrak 2.8 non turbo (F70 Rocky).
Just been speaking to the local parts garage (Crewe) and they said after checking the DVLA website for my chassis number, and using this to check with Daihatsu, that my Fourtrak has a DL engine which uses a timing belt - the timing cover is metal.
I was under the impression from this website that if the vehicle is fitted with a metal timing cover, then it uses gears and NOT a timing belt.
I guess the only way I'm gonna really determine this is by dropping the cover off....
Any thoughts / comments?
Thanks.
What your saying sounds
What your saying sounds right. Normally plastic cover = belt. But Daihatsu have been known to juse use what ever is avalible in the parts bin to finish a car off...

I'm beginning to have my doubts about the local dealer..... just got a replacement thermostat and it's far too small to fit in the elbow (one for a petrol engine?) - the thermostat that's fitted is quite large, about 2" dia, and appears to act on both ends - ie it uncovers a large port one end, and a small port the other end.
