Forum:
Hi, I recently bought a 90 fourtrack (F75)and find that even with the heater on full blast that I still get a lot of cold air blowing through the dash vents - even when they are rolled over to the shut position. I've still not managed to get the heater to blow warm air out of these vents but do manage to get it to the windscreen and the footwell. As the topic title says - is this the norm or am I needing to get in about it and do some sorting out? If the latter - what exactly do I need to do?
Any help appreciated.

our '00 TDL does the exact
our '00 TDL does the exact same thing, always thought it was just our one (broken or something like that). good to know that is isn't just our one.
Bypassed heater.
Its a known practice to 'short circuit' or bypass the heater matrix. This is done when the meater matrix is leaking and the owner does not want the expensive of replacing the unit. Take a look at the baulkhead, engine side, where the two coolant pipes pass through and enter the heater ... easily identified. I suspect the pipes have been detached and then linked/bypassed to avoid passing into the heater unit. Consequently car has no coolant circulation going through the heater matrix, which hides the leak whilst also stopping the matrix working.
Probably by design
Our ancient Fourtrak also only directs cold air to the face (dash) level vents - this is a 'feature' of some of the other makes of cars I've owned.
Our heater / vent system works in all other respects, so I think it's just the design.

Many thanks for this thread. I was considering taking the dash apart to get at the heater controls/flaps/cables, as my heater only works as the above posts indicate. Perplexed my partner and I for years. So it works as it supposed to,we can still live with it.

its not
Its not a problem, its not a bypassed heater marix its a daihatsu fourtrak agricultural vehicle!!!!! ha ha, the only way to sort the problem is to buy a electric dash heater from a motor shop like they do on lots of land rovers etc, the vented pipe to the dash is awkward enough to let the heat cool before it gets there, its more direct to the floor and windscreen - thank god cos otherwise you would always have foggy windows ( i.e land rover), with there big 2.8 td/na engines it takes along time to get them warm for heaters to work properly, they work exceptionally well in the summer though - funny that, regards Neil.
Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

Ah - it is a design feature!
Ah - it is a design feature! Ah well at least I know it is meant to be like that now. Pity too, because there is loads of heat to the footwell and the screen. I'll maybe venture behind the facia at some stage and see if there is some way of diverting some of the heat through those vents. I'll let you know how I get on - but until then I'll continue wearing my gloves and balaclava.

well there you go!
I always assumed there was somthing wrong with it always have warm feet and windscreen but no warm air from vents. Never really bothered me cos the windscreen blower seems to warm up the whole car just as well. Good to know that
