Forum:
Hi,
We have a 1985 SWB Fourtrak.
I'm after the correct:
1) wheel nut torque settings.
2) tyre pressure for tarmac type tyres; 215/80R15.
On point 2) the tyres were at about 30psi, but the body label (next to drivers door) suggests 20psi. After dropping all tyres to this pressure, my other half reckons it's a bit wallowly and slidey going round bends!
Any suggestions?
i`m sure those tyres are
i`m sure those tyres are undersize, mine are 235/70/15 and my body label says 26f 28 r, though i find it better lower, just be aware though that in the event of an accident, pressures other than factory recs could render your insurance invalid
Tired Out
Your tyre sizes are correct for this year, the pressures are front 22psi rear 26psi, these tyres are a compromise for on and off road work.
tyre pressures can be increased to 24-25psi front, and 28-30psi rear for towing duties or if the vehicle is fully laden.
235 X 75 X 15 were an option on your year and not a standard fitment.
Increasing tyre pressures without a heavy load will quickly wear out the centre of the tread, this may also lead to the vehicles front end breaking away under heavy braking, and the rear end breaking away under spirited cornering. Reasons for this are that not enough contact area of the tyre are in contact with the tarmac, this is not uncommon with these vehicles when tyre pressures are increased.
Service manual specs
Just found these in the service manual:
