I want to raise the front of my Fourtrak and am wondering what the exact procedure is. For example is it necessary to take the weight off the front wheels before adjusting the torsion bars?

i did it without lifting the front, however you need arms like garth mate, lift it, it will save you a lot of sweat
Ok, I tried this last
Ok, I tried this last weekend and got the right (driver's) side up from 76cm to 80cm (ground to wheel arch) fairly quickly. I then tried the left side and it seems that the threads are stripped. I could only get the bottom nut to tighten by about 5mm which brought the left side up to 77cm. I brought the right side back down to match the left so I ended up with a 1cm lift.
What I now need to do is make up a spacer (long enough to take take up the damaged length of thread), remove both nuts from the left side torsion bar adjuster, put the spacer on and replace the two nuts.
What I'm not sure of is how much thread will remain "available" when both nuts are removed? If the adjuster comes all (or most) of the way to the top of the thread I won't have room to put the spacer and a nut on!!
Any ideas?
TIA
