Hi again.... Someone has given me a cd player for the sporty... am made up, so sick of having no music. Anyhow, I have not got a clue how to wire it in. The wires on the player look absolutely nothing ;like the ones coming out of the dash. All except the main black one, I am lost. Is there anywhere I can go to get a reference as to what wire goes where? Any help would be great.
Thanks, Jen
Cd Player
Well, without some idea of the player and wire colours it is difficult but I'll give it ago.
Right most modern CD players require a negative which is usually black,a permanant live which is always live whichcan be red and may have a box within it which prevents interference and surges, and an ignition live which should have an inline fuse holder and may be yellow or orange and is connected to a wire that is only live when the ignition is on, . The permanant live keeps the memory going so that when you switch on you previous settings or track are maintained plus the clock. Those are the main conections apart from the speakers of course. In addition some have a further wire that goes to the lighting loom and dims the lights on the unit at night when you have your lights on. In most cases these wires are flagged,+ for permanant live, ACC for ign live.
Most modern CD players then have 8 speaker wires in pairs. Two pairs are for the front and 2 pairs for the rear. One of each pair has a black trace line along its length and that one goes to the + speaker terminal and the non traced to the - speaker terminal, this keeps the speakers in PHASE. The Fronts can be Grey and the rears Green but again it depends on the CD player as some are pink or white but one of each pairs always has a black trace line along it's length..
If you are uncertain then have it fitted by a local auto electrician as getting it wrong can be expensive and dangerous.

Wiring the CD
Are the wires coming out of the dash just cut off or do the all lead into a multi-pin plug? If they are connected to a plug then you should be able to buy an adapter to fit to the stereo. If the sporty is from the age when such common sense did not prevail then you will need to identify the colours of each individual wire as oldminiman has said.
