Retail Rapeseed Oil prices ???????

Forum:

Hi all.

Veg oil prices re- Tesco's , maybe other retail sites.

Before the budget 'Pura' Oilseed Rape Oil was 57p per Lt, at Tesco's. Tesco's own brand oil 78p per Lt. Today (after budget)'Pura' brand not stocked, Tesco's own brand NOW 95p per Lt. Tesco's diesel, our local is £1.11 per Lt, same price as our only other local filling station.

Anyone care to give prices for Aldi, opening soon here, or other retailers. ( North Bristol area, UK)

blimey

The other day i brought 3 litres of tesco own brand rape veggie oil for about 74p a litre it works out, i cant believe its now that price, Aldi is the same price IF they stock it my local one doesnt anymore only sunflower, but i do know what the problem is for prices - world global market on crop prices, severe bad harvests last year across the world has forced prices to rocket, also barrells of oil are climbing in price in U.S, now $111 a barrell, our fuel will be going up again by a couple of pence in a week or two - its insane!!!!!!!!!! Help

Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

diesel prices

diesel prices in the scottish borders is £1.18p a litre. been on the veg oil for 7 months now at 50-60% oil to diesel no problems even in the cold weather.

getting to the point were it

getting to the point were it is not really worth buying veg at the greedy bastards lifted prices, so hopefully when we all decide bolloxs to it, the supermarkets plus the makers will be left with a glut of it on thier hands and see the errors of cutting off the golden gooses head, i personally am going to use my astra diesel a bit more now, that returns 70mpg on a run, if i see the prices start to drop to the more respectable levels then i will use the trak more, if not i will be saving up my pennies from a better fuel consumption vehicle and use that when i want/need to use the trak

I've been running our

I've been running our Fourtrak on 50% veg oil since November 2007 - Tesco in Shrewsbury, Whitchurch and Crewe have never stocked the Pura brand (as far as I can tell).

Currently 3ltrs of Tesco veg oil works out at 74p/ltr.

Interesting, there was a BBC News article about the cost of food in other countries, and apparently veg oil is 75p/ltr in Cairo!

Lidl (Whitchurch, Shropshire) do veg oil for 78p/ltr, and sunflower for 86p/ltr, and for the really indulgent, olive oil for about £7/ltr Wink

I've been looking at using cash'n'carry (via the company I work for) and I think Bookers do 20ltr drums for about 54p/ltr, although it does warn that these prices are very volatile.

RAPE SEED OIL

Here in France my wife tells me it is well below a Euro. Mind you with the Euro being 75p+/- that isn't a lot cheaper.

Getting political for a moment, I think, as a UK tax payer, these MP expenses are a bit OTT. The John Lewis list says £300 for a mirror, £750 for a TV and then they say that they are helping OAP's with £50 increase in the annual fuel allowance, how generous.

I assume they like the rest of us are taxed on these "PERKS" and "GIFTS" from their employer, in this case us the tax-payer.

I'm afraid I take the attitudde that if you do the job then you go in with eyes open and foot the bill yourself, after all none of us get our travelling expenses paid to and from work by the tax payer so why should they?

Right off me soap box. Good 4x4ing to all!!!!!

Raped

Interesting comments: I may be able to provide an answer to the price rises thanks to a contact who works as a buyer for a large supermarket chain.
Prices have risen to a small degree due to economic factors such as the cost of fuel, road tax, etc.
Individuals with diesel engined vehicles are the biggest problem, so many people are buying oils from supermarkets, which has led to a huge increase in sales, this has led to a shortage, as well as an increase in demand.
Suppliers have noticed this increase in demand, and increased the price to the retailers, in an effort to make a quick buck, christmas for the suppliers you might say.
Consequently; the supermarkets have noticed this increase in demand, and decided to increase their profits at the same time.
As a result of all these factors, we now have increased prices.

I've heard so many

I've heard so many conflicting views from different people regarding other additives/chemicals which should be used alongside veg oil to either thin it or to prevent engine/fuel pump damage. It's all very confusing.
What you guys seem to be saying is that in a Fourtrak you can simply mix it about half and half with diesel. Have I got that right? Is there anything else that should be done/added or is it really that simple?
My Fourtrak is an '02 by the way so I don't know if an modifications were made to these late engines that would make a difference.
Any advice?

We have a 1985 non turbo

We have a 1985 non turbo diesel Fourtrak.

We are running it on 50% fresh veg oil with no mods and no other chemicals, just by filling up with say 15ltrs diesel, and then adding 15ltrs veg oil. We have been doing this for approx 6months - the only thing replaced was the fuel filter (the vehicle wouldn't go above 25mph!) and this happened within a couple of months of starting to use veg oil.

The only issue, is sometimes the engine will conk out when it's cold and the weather is frosty.

Fourtraks are fitted with a Bosch VE injector pump, which have a good reputation for running on veg oil.

I would advise you to carry a spare fuel filter, as they are quite simple to replace.

As above , no probs, just have a spare fuel filter handy , due to debris being cleaned from tank and lines, though never had a problem from day one. I run 50/50 with no problems, just change ALL filters/engine oil at recommened intervals. no problems with winter starting , check glow/heater plugs are ALL okay. More than 50/50 you may experience problems in cold weather re starting. Lots of posts on the site do a search, eg veg oil . Not every ones cup of tea I except, and there is a lot of conflighting advice out there. But I at the moment get my Rapeseed Oil from Tescos @ 57p a Ltr,(Pura brand), todays diesel price at my local Tescos is £1.13.9 per Ltr, up again from sunday , rising allmost daily.

Thanks guys - I can feel a big shopping trip to Tescos coming on. Hmmm, maybe I should take the trailer... Wink

I wouldn't bother Wink

Not with the price of veg oil in our Tesco + the constant lack of stock.

Modifications

Modifications were made to the turbo and fuelling systems in an attempt to reduce the emissions levels, this means the engine does not have as much torque at the bottom end, but more power at higher revs.

Essentially the engine is the same in all other respects.

veg oil

FYI
Purchased veg oil in tesco's Elgin today for 57p a litre.

veg oil price

Assume at that price its 'Pura' brand Rape Seed oil, rather than Tesco's own brand, have today just purchased 15 Ltr of Pura at 57p from my local Tesco's. Visit almost every day to build up a stock .

Edward (ews) '92 Fourtrak 2.8 TDX

Rip Off !!!!!

My local Tesco's after having difficulties in stocking 'Pura' brand Rapeseed Oil, always selling out, at 57p a Ltr bottle, have a shelf full and its not moving ,why !!!!!. Its now 98p a Ltr bottle, a 41 p increase in 24hours. A word with the supervisor and she keyed the computer and said 'not sold a single one today' what a suprise!!.

Edward (ews) '92 Fourtrak 2.8 TDX

Universal, it appears!

'93 Fourtrak 2.8TDL

If it's any consolation, our local supermarket (Ed, of German origin, I believe) sells veg oil at 1.25 euros a litre; this equates to 98p. It was cheaper a while back but not much, & is still cheaper than the Leviathon that is E. Leclerc.
I think someone somewhere has an eye on what's happening!!
On a slightly different tack, we have several small co-operatives that produce their own fuel from sunflower oil in the region;I've found old stuff on the web about them, & whilst being technically illegal, they seem to still be flourishing. One guy near Agen was in the papers at one point describing how he grows & produces his own crop/fuel; whilst another was in a paper from another part of the region describing how he'd converted numerous tractors, cars, vans etc to run on the stuff, but that he had to keep it hush-hush, to the point where they changed his name & blacked out his face.
I'm still not sure of the "legality" of it all here as I'm sure the police aren't either. We have periodic Douanes checkpoints but I've never known anyone to have their tank dipped.
At last, a positive side to French apathy! Wink

I don't belieeeeeve it! Last

I don't belieeeeeve it!
Last week Pura rape seed oil was 57p a litre in Tescos Carlisle - so I bought plenty. Went in yesterday and it's now £1.07 a litre. Almost double in just a few days. Shok
What's going on? It can't simply be the supermarkets being that greedy (although we all know they ARE greedy). Even they know that doubling it will result in not selling any. Do you think they have perhaps been instructed to put the price up by some higher force (i.e. Gordon?).
Oh well, looks like my veg burning days have just come to a premature end.
One way or another, this country is determined to bugger us all!

Been like that for a few

Been like that for a few weeks in North Shropshire - and every time I go into Tesco, they appear to have a shelf full!

Lidl are still selling veg oil for 78p / ltr.

1985 Veg oil burning Fourtrak "Rocky".

Aldi

Aldi are 78p litre at minute, but the cost per ton of rape seed at the minute is a very volatile market, its shot up in price and then fluctuates in fifty quid drops and increases at the stock market, its the price of food and fuel im afraid, severe bad harvests last year across the globe due to unusual weather patterns/nature.

Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

Rapeseed Oil

I converted my P reg Fourtrak to run on 100% rape last year. Everything was great 60p per litre in 200 gal drums of really pure rape.

But farmer now says waste product from his pressing is too expensive to get rid of: no deals

Sainsburys, last night £1 per litre in 3L bottles.

Its still 18p cheaper than the roadside but you don't half get aload of empty plastic bottles build up quickly.

My web searching required!!!
