Forum:
recently ive been having starting problems with my 2.8 td. its a bugger to start in the morning, but once turned over it starts on the key until the next morning!! im virtualy certain its the common dodgy fuel valve in the filter housing. got in touch with daihatsu, quoted me £118 quid for the new part. thought i might get round it by fitting a heavy duty one way fuel valve between the engine itself and and the filter housing so it will stop the diesel flowing back to the tank, anyone think its a cheap fix?!
Poor starter

Hi.
Had similar prob when I purchased my Fourtrak, owner fitted new battery thinking that was the problem, the problem was a corroded fuel line (pin hole/air ingress), allowing the fuel to leak back to the tank, and with the result the engine had to self bleed each morning, never had a problem with the filter housing.
Hope this may be of help.

Easier to get a new filter housing if it is the non return valve, these are available secondhand and take only a few minutes to change.
The non return valve needs fitting at the very end of the fuel line which is why its located in the fuel filter housing, its sole purpose is to stop fuel returning to tank, and not have to prime itself by starting on the fuel in the filter, and sucking fuel from the tank. Do not fit a non return valve between the filter and the injection pump, this can cause several other problems.
