Operating Temp

Hia
Both my fourtraks run at pretty much exactly half way on the temp gauge always. I had an overheating problem with one recently and noticed it immediately because the gauge has never moved before. It turned out to be a water pump problem but I know there are a million reasons for overheating and Im no Mechanic.

Hope you sort it.

high water temp

check the radiator they have a tendency to clog up leading to higher engine temp and then the standard sportrak head gasket gone. reverse flush the rad keeping an eye out for crap in the water. if you change the thermostat make sure its a genuine daihatsu part they are different hope this helps, any questions get back to me. just bought sportrak number 19 this year this is all i trade in parts whole vehicles e.c.t

Replace the thermostat.

If the thermostat is 15years old then it is well past its useful life. Its probably stuck half open, so insufficient coolant get circulated. Drain plug is found at the bottom of the radiator. Renew with the correct longer-than-normal thermostat for daihatsu. Take care when tightening the nuts since they easily snap ... 5 lb maximum. Use a new gasket and gasket seal. The jiggle [hole] in the thermostat plate must be positioned uppermost so the air in the engine block is vented. Job is very easy but remember to take care tightening those nuts!

Whilst the radiator/engne block are coolant empty, use the opportunity to thoroughly flush the system and back-flush the radiator.. When refilled plus additive, run/tick over for 5 mins until the radiator gets hot, switch off to go cold and then top up the coolant. Job done.
