Forum:
Hi, I'm new, I've owned a daihatsu fourtrak 2.8 1991 for 2 days now and am totaly new to 4x4's.
Just a quick Q if any one has experienced it heres the problem: when shifted into 4wd on full lock while moving there is a rough grinding from the rear drivers side wheel. I thought maybe a bearing or cv joint, any help appreciated.
Also I'm looking for a set of wheel arch mouldings.
Axles again
The back axle is solid, there are no CV joints in them, it is most likely somewhere else, this needs to be found first as it could be a number of things.
Grinding on 4x4
I agree with assasin it warrants further investigation. I keep thinking of transmission windup if you were in 4wd and on tarmac and what noises that may produce. It depends how far and for how long you travelled on full lock on tarmac. A further option could be simply the rear brake linings. I used to find that on Mini's the conical shaped adjuster used to shed bits of steel that then became inbedded in the friction material and made a noticable grinding noise from the rear hubs when moving slowley. I know the Daihatsue doesn't use such antiquated adjusters but it could be some foreign matter in the friction material grinding on the drum.

thx for replys, I havn't had a chance to check it yet.
Debris
Take the wheel off. Probably got a stone stuck in the back plate. If nothing found remove the brake drum and look for debris stuck on the brake shoes. Whilst inside the brake drum take a look at the depth of lining on the shoes .... could be down to the limit.
