hijet overheating

Forum:

sorry to drag this up again.. we've only just stumbled across this forum. we have a 1996 diesel hijet devon conversion campervan. we had overheating problems at 52000 miles, resulting in a new engine in Dec 05. the problem is now recurring after only 15000 miles. any suggestions that a layman can understand, or any garage that could be recommended to fix it?
many thanks

HOT HIJET

This seems a common problem with the Hijet and mine was caused by pooly sealed water caps. When the vehicle is at running temp check the hoses, they should be hard indicating that the system is pressurised.

If they are soft replace the caps. On the Petrol their are 2 on in line beneath the left front seat and one on the top of the rad itself.

If all is well then check for water contamination in the oil best described a salad cream where oil and water are mixed. If it is present then suspect the Head Gasket. If not contaminated look toward the thermostat. It is also worth checking the connections on the fan which I assume is eletric and operates when the vehicle temp. rises. The contacts can become corroded and then prevent this from working. A liberal application of WD40 usually does the trick

GOOD LUCK
