Forum:
I have recently purchased a 1999 Hijet. When you have the headlights on the instrument panel doesn't light up which makes night time driving a pain as you can't see the speedo! I can't see a fuse for this and can find nothing in the handbook. Any ideas on how I can fix it?
Thanks

Have you tried changing the bulbs? Contrary to the rumour dashboard lamps have a finite life and will fail after about 1000 hours. Depending on the milage/age of your hi-jet this might just be the problem.
It might be possible to change the bulbs for LED replacements which are now becoming available, and last somewhat longer 10K hours typically. The advantage is that you can have the dash display in your choice of colour Red, Blue, Green, etc.
There are also an LED replacement for the standard glow worm's arm-pit festoon type interior bulb; again you can choose a better or more suitable colour.
Of course you could just say that the lack of lighting is part of your van's stealth ability and was modelled after SAAB's switchable dashboard display, except someone forgot to fit the return switch to restore the lighting on demand.
